Avatar 3: After waiting for 13 years, we finally have the new movie called Avatar: The Way of Water. It’s expected to be really popular, and there were already plans made 10 years ago for three more Avatar movies, namely Avatar 3, 4, and 5. This makes us curious about what will happen next in the world of Pandora and the whole Avatar universe.
The director of Avatar 2, James Cameron, has been doing a lot of interviews to promote the movie. In these interviews, he has been talking a lot about the three possible sequels to Avatar. Cameron has been open about sharing basic details and updates on these movies, giving us more information about what to expect in the next decade of the Avatar franchise compared to other movie series.
Fans might be surprised by how James Cameron approached the writing process for these movies, considering how big franchises usually work. After the first movie became a hit and plans for multiple sequels were made, Cameron gathered a group of writers, similar to how television shows have a team of writers.
Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, Josh Friedman, and Shane Salerno joined forces with Cameron to develop the story for the franchise. They then divided the work, with each writer taking charge of a script for one of the films.
This proactive approach can also be seen in how Cameron filmed the movies. He has already shot significant portions of the next three movies with actors like Sam Worthington, Stephen Lang, Zoe Saldana, and some new child actors.
Even though we’ve learned some exciting behind-the-scenes information, we still don’t have all the details about the next three Avatar movies. So, let’s break it down and share what we do know about Avatar 3, 4, and 5. We’ve gathered this information from James Cameron’s comments and our conversations with the Avatar: The Way of Water crew.
Avatar 3 Release Date
The release date for Avatar 3 has been changed. Instead of coming out on December 20, 2024, it will now be released almost a year later, on December 19, 2025.
There have been many delays for Avatar 3, and its release date has been pushed back multiple times for different reasons, like production shutdowns caused by COVID-19.
The delays happened because the director, James Cameron, wanted to make sure that all five Avatar scripts were ready before starting production, even though one of the scripts will never be made into a movie.
These delays also gave the visual effects team more time to work on the sequels. Originally, Avatar 3 was planned to be released in 2015, then in 2020, but 20th Century Studios eventually settled on 2024. However, as of now, the release date for Avatar 3 is set for 2025.
The latest delays for Avatar 3 happened because of a Writers Strike in Hollywood. This strike has caused the production of many shows and movies to come to a halt.
Because of the shift in Avatar 3’s release date, the following sequels will also be delayed as Disney adjusts its release schedule.
Avatar 3 has been confirmed for several years now, and the long wait between the first movie and its sequels gave James Cameron and his writing team the chance to plan the story in advance.
Cameron’s plan for the sequels is explained in Avatar: The Way of Water, and the director mentioned that one of the main reasons he wants to make more Avatar movies is to keep working with the cast and crew.
What is The Title Of The Next Avatar Movie
In 2018, the BBC leaked some possible titles for the Avatar sequels based on “documentation.”
Although James Cameron didn’t confirm any of the titles, he mentioned that they were being considered, including The Way of Water for the second movie. According to the leaked information, the title for Avatar 3 is The Seed Bearer.
However, this doesn’t guarantee that this will be the final title for the movie. Since Cameron and his co-writers have been planning ahead for multiple movies, it’s likely that he has a good idea of what he wants to name it.

Avatar 3 Plot: What Will Happen?
James Cameron has shared some interesting details about Avatar 3. In this movie, we will meet a new group of Na’vi called the “Ash People,” who are connected to the element of fire.
Unlike the previous movies, Avatar 3 will show both good Na’vi characters and a more positive side of humanity. Along with that, we will also see some not-so-nice Na’vi characters.
The film will continue to follow the main characters we already know while exploring new places and environments in Pandora. Cameron has also mentioned that there will be a new villain from Pandora who will personally threaten our heroes.
This villain will be different from the faceless military forces we saw in the earlier films.
Avatar 3 Trailer
Even though most of the filming for Avatar 3 is finished, there haven’t been any previews, teasers, or trailers released yet. Since the movie is coming out in December 2025, it’s more likely that we might see a trailer for Avatar 3 in early 2025, but not before that.
