On Christmas Day in 2020, the first season of Bridgerton came out on Netflix. It had 8 episodes. Then, on March 25, 2022, the second season of the show was released with 8 more episodes.
Bridgerton fans are excitedly waiting for the third season, which will be on Netflix soon for everyone to enjoy. They started making Season 3 in the summer of 2022, and we hope to see it by the end of 2023. But there’s some uncertainty because of an actor and writer strike. Right now, no one has announced the official release date.
In this article, we will guide everything you need to know about Bridgerton Season 3 Potential Release Date, Cast, and Story Plot.
Bridgerton Season 3 storyline
The first two seasons of Bridgerton followed the books by Julia Quinn, but Netflix has decided to mix things up for Season 3. They won’t follow the book order. Instead, they’re skipping the third book and going to the fourth one. So, Season 3 will focus on Penelope and Colin’s story.
For those who missed the steamy romance from Season 1, don’t worry. Season 3 promises some spicy scenes. Actress Nicola Coughlan even joked about needing a special “PG” version for her family to watch. She mentioned a scene in a carriage that starts as an argument but turns very romantic.
Here’s the official Season 3 synopsis from Netflix:
“In Season 3, Penelope Featherington has given up on her crush on Colin Bridgerton after hearing him say hurtful things about her last season. She’s now looking for a husband who will give her the freedom to continue her secret life as Lady Whistledown. But her attempts to find a husband don’t go well.
Colin has returned from his travels looking more confident. But Penelope is giving him the cold shoulder. To win back her friendship, Colin offers to help Penelope gain confidence to find a husband. However, as his lessons work a little too well, he starts questioning whether his feelings for Penelope are just friendly.
Penelope also has a rift with Eloise, who has found an unexpected friend. And as Penelope becomes more prominent in society, it becomes harder to keep her secret identity as Lady Whistledown.”
Star Cast of Bridgerton Season 3
The cast of “Bridgerton” has been instrumental in bringing the characters to life and making the show so beloved. In April 2022, it was confirmed that Bailey and Ashley would return as Viscount and Viscountess Bridgerton for the third season, where they will portray a married couple. Hannah Dodd took over the role of Francesca Bridgerton, replacing Ruby Stokes, who left due to scheduling conflicts. Chandran will not be returning as Edwina.
While the official cast list for Season 3 has not been confirmed, it’s likely that many of the main cast members will come back. This includes actors like Phoebe Dynevor as Daphne Bridgerton, Regé-Jean Page as Simon Basset, Jonathan Bailey as Anthony Bridgerton, and more. However, since the show has an anthology-like structure, some characters may take a back seat in certain seasons, allowing new actors and characters to shine.
Bridgerton Season 3 Release Date Explained
Netflix gave fans a sneak peek of Bridgerton Season 3 during their 2023 Tudum event in June. While they didn’t officially announce a release date, a now-deleted tweet from Netflix Portugal suggested December 14 as a possible date.
Season 3 started filming in July 2022 and finished in March 2023, giving them ample time for a 2023 premiere. Season 1 had a 10-month gap between filming and release, while Season 2 had only four months.
Given the success of Season 1, which was released during the holidays, a December premiere for Season 3 makes sense. It will also follow the Queen Charlotte prequel spin-off that came out in May 2023, creating a good gap between Bridgerton entries.
Luckily, Bridgerton Season 3 wrapped filming before the writers’ and actors’ strikes in May and July. So, these strikes aren’t expected to delay Season 3 unless there’s a need for reshoots.
While there’s no official Netflix release date for Bridgerton Season 3 yet, December 14 seems like a reasonable guess, unless plans have changed or that date was inaccurate.
Could Bridgerton Season 3 Be Delayed to 2024?
Recent streaming shows, including those on Netflix, often announce release dates much closer to their premieres compared to movies or older TV shows. For example, Queen Charlotte announced its May premiere date in February, just under three months before its release. Sex Education did something similar for its Season 4 release date.
However, Netflix sometimes provides longer notice for major shows. For example, You Season 4 had its February release date announced in September, giving viewers five months’ notice before adjusting the date closer to release.
Considering that Bridgerton is one of Netflix’s most successful franchises, it’s possible they might opt for a longer marketing campaign to generate excitement among both existing and new viewers. If Season 3 is still on track for a 2023 release, Netflix will likely announce it soon. Otherwise, there’s a growing chance that Bridgerton’s return could be delayed to 2024.
In the meantime, you can enjoy the first two seasons of Bridgerton and Queen Charlotte, which are currently available for streaming on Netflix.
