The excitement for Cobra Kai Season 6 is through the roof, especially after the fantastic fifth season on Netflix.
Cobra Kai continues the story from the original Karate Kid movies, with familiar faces like Ralph Macchio and William Zabka reprising their roles.
Originally, the first two seasons premiered on YouTube Premium, but the show found a new home on Netflix starting with Season 3 in January 2021. Fans got a double treat with Season 4 in December 2021 and Season 5 in September 2022. The Cobra Kai journey just keeps getting better!
When Is Cobra Kai Season 6 Releasing?
Exciting news for Cobra Kai fans! In January 2023, Netflix officially confirmed that the show would be returning for a sixth and final season. The decision wasn’t much of a shocker, especially with the fifth season earning a remarkable 100% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes.
While there’s no official word on the Season 6 premiere date, there have been some promising updates. Ralph Macchio, the star of Cobra Kai, shared during his appearance at the Atlanta Comic Convention in February 2023 that filming for the series would kick off in May. The countdown to the final season is on!
April 2023 brought some behind-the-scenes updates for Cobra Kai Season 6. Daniel Klapheke, owner of Elite Martial Arts of Brentwood, revealed that William Zabka and Martin Kove had completed their fight training, signaling that filming for the new season was just around the corner. True to expectations, production officially kicked off on April 28, 2023.
However, a significant hurdle hit when the Writers Guild of America (WGA) initiated a writers’ strike in May 2023. Reports surfaced indicating that the series might have to halt production. Unfortunately, Cobra Kai indeed faced a setback as filming came to a standstill.
Showrunner Jon Hurwitz confirmed on X (formerly known as Twitter) on May 2 that the Cobra Kai writers’ room would stand in solidarity with the ongoing strike, joining the picket line. The journey to Season 6 hit a roadblock, but the team remained united.
The hurdles for Cobra Kai Season 6 keep piling up. After the writers’ strike, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) launched its own strike in July 2023, causing further delays in the production start. With the Writers Guild of America strike now resolved, all eyes are on the SAG-AFTRA strike to conclude before Cobra Kai can resume filming.
Negotiations between SAG-AFTRA and the studios seem to be progressing positively, offering hope for productions like Cobra Kai. While the situation is still dynamic, there’s a chance that filming for Season 6 could resume in late 2023 or early next year, potentially wrapping up by mid to late 2024 at the latest.
For context, Season 5’s production spanned four months from September to December 2021, with its release on Netflix on September 9, 2022. The wait for the next chapter of Cobra Kai continues with the hope that the strikes will soon be resolved.
Given the various factors at play, including post-production and potential reshoots, it’s plausible that Cobra Kai Season 6 might make its way to the streaming service in late 2024 or early 2025. The challenges posed by the strikes have certainly added some twists and turns to the timeline, but fans can hopefully look forward to the continuation of the Cobra Kai saga in the not-too-distant future. The anticipation is real!
Is Cobra Kai Ending With Season 6?
The announcement from Netflix about Cobra Kai’s Season 6 renewal came with bittersweet news—it will be the show’s final season. In the official statement, creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg acknowledged the end of the series but expressed hope for telling more ‘Karate Kid’ stories in the future.
Contrary to speculation, it was revealed in February 2023 by Hurwitz that Netflix wasn’t the one calling the shots to end Cobra Kai in six seasons. The decision was made by the showrunners themselves, emphasizing their desire to conclude Cobra Kai on their own terms.
Hurwitz hinted that they’re not done with the Miyagiverse, suggesting that spin-offs could be on the horizon. In September 2022, Schlossberg mentioned having lots of ideas for other stories in the Cobra Kai universe. Perhaps, after Season 6, fans can look forward to exploring these intriguing narratives in the future. The end of Cobra Kai marks the beginning of new possibilities in the Karate Kid world.
Is Johnny in Cobra Kai Season 6?
The dynamic shift for William Zabka’s character, Johnny Lawrence, is quite the journey—from main antagonist in the Karate Kid franchise to the main protagonist in Cobra Kai. The unexpected friendship that blossoms between Johnny and former rival Danny LaRusso has been a central theme of the show.
As Season 6 approaches, all eyes are on Johnny, and many fans are speculating about a much-anticipated rematch between him and Danny. The prospect of seeing these two iconic characters facing off again is generating quite a buzz. With the stage set for Johnny to take center stage once more, Cobra Kai Season 6 holds the promise of delivering some thrilling moments and, perhaps, a proper rematch that fans have been eagerly awaiting.

What Will Happen in Cobra Kai Season 6?
Cobra Kai Season 6 is going to handle a lot of different stories as it gets ready for its final season.
They’ll likely focus on Johnny and Carmen Diaz becoming parents, what happens next with Terry Silver and his students, a possible rematch between Danny and Johnny as friends, and the Sekai Taikai international championships.
In a talk with Digital Spy in September 2022, Dallas Dupree Young, who plays Kenny, talked about how his character felt really upset finding out about Silver’s true colors. Kenny doesn’t know what to do now that he knows the truth about his teacher.
In Season 6 of Cobra Kai, Kenny might be on a journey to discover more about himself. There’s a chance he could join Cobra Kai to be with Miguel and the rest.
In an interview with PopCulture in October 2022, Jacob Bertrand, who plays Eli ‘Hawk’ Moskowitz, shared his wish for a “world tournament” in the final season. He hopes this would bring in some new and exciting characters to the show.
In the series, the Sekai Taikai is a really important karate championship, one of the best in the world. It seems like this could be the ultimate goal for both the teachers and students in Cobra Kai.
According to Gianni Decenzo, who plays Demetri, the Sekai Taikai could play a big role in Season 6, as he mentioned in the same interview with Digital Spy in September 2022.
Additionally, the relationships between Tory and Robby, as well as Sam and Miguel, are expected to take center stage in the final season. There’s a good chance that a happy ending could be in store for these pairs as their own ultimate goals.
With John Kreese out of prison, the longtime villain might be seeking revenge against Johnny and Danny. However, Season 6 could surprise everyone by potentially showing a different side of Kreese, maybe even redeeming him.

Following this pattern, fans can anticipate a similar release for Season 6 after it premieres on the streaming service.
Is There a Trailer for Cobra Kai Season 6?
As of now, there’s no official trailer for Cobra Kai Season 6 because the production isn’t complete yet. However, Netflix did treat fans to a short teaser celebrating the Season 6 announcement. This teaser includes a mini-retrospective of the best moments from the Karate Kid franchise.
