George Armstrong, who was known for his roles in Grange Hill and The Bill, has sadly passed away at the age of 60. He had been fighting against leukaemia for a long time.
In Grange Hill, he played the character of Alan Humphries from 1978 to 1982. The news of his passing was shared on a Grange Hill fan account on Twitter, where they expressed their sadness and called him a true legend of the show. Rest in peace, George Armstrong.
Many people expressed their condolences and shared heartfelt tributes after the news of the star’s passing was announced. Robert Craig-Morgan, George’s former co-star from Grange Hill, tweeted a goodbye message, saying he loved George.
Fans also took to social media to express their sadness. One fan mentioned how young George was and how it feels like our childhood stars are leaving us. Another person shared that George was a character from their childhood and sent thoughts to his family and friends from Grange Hill.
Someone else mentioned meeting George a few years ago and described him as a great person. Another tribute mentioned George’s role as Alan Humphries in Grange Hill and expressed sadness at his passing.
In 2018, George had openly talked about his battle with cancer to raise money for charity and expressed gratitude to the NHS for their support.
Two years ago, I was diagnosed with leukaemia, and I had to spend four months fighting against it. I was able to achieve remission, but unfortunately, in February of this year, the leukaemia came back, and I’ve spent most of the last three months in the hospital.
It’s tough and exhausting, but despite a scary moment, I’m still here and continuing to fight. Being in the hospital every day reminds me of how incredible the NHS is and the amazing work they do. However, they can’t do it alone, and that’s where some remarkable charities come in to help.
George Armstrong, who was born in London, started acting at a young age. His first notable role was as Hubert Lane in the 1977 series Just William, where he acted alongside Bonnie Langford.
After his time on Grange Hill, George appeared as PC Driscoll in The Bill in 1989. Following his role in the crime drama, he became a Technical Theatre Manager at a public school.
Sadly, George passed away just five months after another Grange Hill star, Lee Whitlock, passed away at the age of 54.
