India squad for Asia Cup 2023: Tilak Varma, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer picked

Asia Cup 2023: On Monday, the people who take care of cricket in India, called the Board of Control for Cricket in India (we can call it BCCI), told everyone about the 17 players who will be playing in the Asia Cup 2023.

The leader of the people who pick the players, named Ajit Agarkar, shared the list of players in New Delhi on Monday afternoon. This happened after a meeting where Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid were also there.

The team has a mix of experienced and young players. Some well-known players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah will be playing, and there are also new players like Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma.

They also added KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer to the team, and Tilak Varma got his first chance to play in a One Day International (ODI) match.

A person named Agarkar, who helps choose the players, talked about why they picked Tilak Varma. He said, “We saw that he did well in West Indies. This will help him get more experience. In the World Cup, we can only choose 15 players, but for now, we have 17.”

“Shreyas is ready to play, but KL Rahul got a small injury, so Sanju is here as a replacement,” he added.

Tilak Varma did really well in his first matches against West Indies. He played with good skills and showed that he can handle the pressure of international matches. Both the former coach Ravi Shastri and the person who selects players, Sandeep Patil, agreed that they want him in the team for the Asia Cup and the World Cup.

In case anything happens to the main keeper, Sanju Samson is ready to step in as a backup keeper for the Asia Cup.

Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya (v/c), Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna.

The Asia Cup 2023 will happen in two places, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, kind of like a mix. Pakistan will have four matches, and Sri Lanka will have nine.

India’s first match will be against Pakistan on September 2.

The best four teams will move forward to the semi-finals, and the last match will be on September 17.

Six teams are taking part in the 2023 Asia Cup: India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh.
