Kamala Harris plans tour energizing key Democratic groups in coming weeks

Vice President Kamala Harris is getting ready to start a month-long series of important events to encourage people to vote. She has a plan that shows what she will do to support the Democratic party in the 2024 election.

On Sunday, Harris will be the main speaker at the yearly gathering of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition in Chicago. This group fights for civil rights and was created by Reverend Jesse Jackson.

Later next week, she will go to Indianapolis to talk at the conference of Delta Sigma Theta. Harris is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, and this event will connect her with another historically Black sorority called the “Divine Nine.”

In the coming weeks, Harris will also speak at conferences organized by various groups. She will address Unidos US, a big organization that advocates for Hispanics, in Chicago.

She will also speak at the NAACP conference in Boston, the Women’s Missionary Society of the African Methodist Episcopal Church conference in Orlando, and the Everytown for Gun Safety conference in Chicago.

These events are part of Harris’s official duties as Vice President, and they showcase the important work she has been doing in the administration.

The White House says that she has been focusing on crucial issues that directly affect the wellbeing of the American people.

Additionally, these events align with the strategy of President Biden’s re-election campaign. They aim to energize and engage key supporters of the Democratic Party during the early stages of the 2024 election cycle.

“This travel is about addressing the important issues that matter to Americans right now, and connecting with key groups who support Biden and Harris, like young people and Latinos,” said an advisor to President Biden, according to NBC News.

“Having the vice president at these well-known events early in the election cycle shows her ability to inspire people and will help us gather support from these groups next year.”

Last month, President Joe Biden led a political rally organized by major labor unions who endorsed him. He also spoke at a dinner hosted by an important environmental group, which publicly supported his re-election.

Biden and Harris appeared together at a rally before the anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision, which overturned Roe v. Wade. Reproductive rights groups also endorsed the Biden-Harris ticket during this time.

Harris has a schedule that reminds us of her previous engagements with important groups before the midterm elections last year.

It was a strategy she shared with the president to take advantage of the Dobbs decision and Republican-led attempts to change election laws.

The Democratic Party did better than expected during the midterms, keeping losses in the House to a minimum, increasing their majority in the Senate, and gaining more control over governorships.

Now, Harris is continuing that strategy following recent Supreme Court decisions that affect African American students, young voters, and the LGBTQ community.

She recently went to the Stonewall bar in New York as part of her celebration of Pride Month. She also visited other places to talk about gun safety and climate change.

Harris is traveling at a time when the GOP presidential nomination process is getting busier. There will be a big Iowa Republican Party dinner later this month, and the traditional campaign frenzy will start around the Iowa State Fair in August.
