Mumbai: On Wednesday, the great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi said something happened to him. He was stopped by the Mumbai police today while he was going to a special place to remember ‘Quit India’ day. This happened at a place called Santa Cruz police station.
I was held at Santa Cruz Police Station today as I was going to remember Quit India Day on August 9th. This is the first time something like this has happened in independent India. I feel proud because even my great-grandparents, Bapu and Ba, were arrested by the British Police on the same important day. I shared this on Twitter.
For the first time in history of Indipendent India I have been detained at Santa Cruz Police Station as I left home to commemorate 9th August Quit India Day. I am proud My Great Grandparents Bapu and Ba had also been arrested by the British Police on the historic date.

“Now they’re letting me go. I’m going to August Kranti Maidan. Inquilab Zindabad!” tweeted Gandhi. The ‘Quit India’ movement started in August 1942 to oppose British rule.
At the same time, Jayant Patil, who is the leader of the NCP in Maharashtra, talked to reporters. He said, “Today is a big day… We still have a chance that if someone goes against democracy today, the people of the country will come together and shout the same slogan.”
Talking about Tushar Gandhi being stopped by the police, Patil said, “It’s been 81 years since Mahatma Gandhi and other freedom fighters were arrested. And now, his great-grandson was held. I wonder if things are still like they were during colonial times. People will want to know why he was held.”
