Updates about Meg 2: The Trench trace back to October 2018, suggesting that work on the sequel began shortly after the first movie hit theaters.

Around the start of 2019, filmmaker Lorenzo di Bonaventura shared that a screenplay was in the works, as reported by Cinema Blend. Director Wheatley began filming in early 2022, setting the stage for a significant release in 2023.

The post-production phase is likely taking a while due to the advanced and enhanced visual effects, which is possibly why no videos or previews have been released yet. Meg 2: The Trench is set to premiere on August 4, 2023.

While fans are eager, Warner Bros. hasn’t officially confirmed its support for a third Meg movie. As a result, the lack of a confirmed release date for a potential third film shouldn’t be too surprising.

Who will be in the Meg 3 cast?

The official synopsis of the book goes like this: “18 years have passed since Jonas Taylor last encountered the carcharodon Megalodon. Now a middle-aged father of two, he is grappling with heaps of bills and the daily challenges of raising a family.

“However, things are about to change. A Hollywood TV producer invites Jonas to join his new reality series: Daredevils. Over the next six weeks, two teams of daring individuals on a South Pacific Ocean voyage will compete against each other, all while being filmed.

Jonas is in need of the money, and the job of providing color commentary seems relatively straightforward. But behind the scenes, someone else is orchestrating events. And before it’s all over, Jonas will once again confront the most perilous creatures to ever roam the Earth.”

Although this is speculative, it provides a glimpse into the kind of story that The Meg 3 could explore, based on the source material.
