The Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) Bill 2023 has been approved by both houses. As a result, the National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) in Mumbai will now be officially known as the Indian Institute of Management, Mumbai (IIM Mumbai).
With this change, NITIE Mumbai becomes the 21st IIM in India.
Considering this growth, the institute has set a goal to increase the number of students it admits and improve its current facilities.
Shashi Kiran Shetty, the Chairman of the Society and Board of Governors at NITIE, expressed his desire to see the student population at IIM Mumbai double.
To achieve this, the institute plans to enhance its infrastructure, support research activities, and provide better housing for the faculty.
Shetty shared this information with reporters on Wednesday, emphasizing the institute’s commitment to making these improvements as soon as possible.
Shetty also made it clear that all the students who are currently studying in various programs at NITIE (approximately 1200 students) will receive a certification from IIM Mumbai upon completing their studies.
He mentioned that the ultimate goal is to make IIM Mumbai self-sufficient. To achieve this, the institute intends to expand its infrastructure to accommodate a larger student and staff population.
They also plan to introduce new programs, undertake research projects, and establish partnerships with industries to enhance the learning experience for students.
The aim is to create an environment that supports comprehensive growth and development.
