OpenAI CEO Sam Altman was asked if an Indian startup could create something like ChatGPT. He said it’s unlikely. Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, responded to Altman’s remarks, saying that Altman’s opinion doesn’t determine India’s potential in artificial intelligence.
Chandrasekhar acknowledged Altman’s accomplishments but emphasized that he should be respected for his work without being considered the ultimate authority on AI.
The minister stated that Altman’s comments will be acknowledged, but it’s important not to assume that Indian startups will simply follow his lead.
Following Altman’s remarks, Tech Mahindra CEO CP Gurnani accepted the “challenge” put forth by Altman on Twitter.
