Oppenheimer Box Office: Barbie and Oppenheimer had really big numbers on Thursday night previews, and it’s still early on Friday, but it looks like both movies are going to have incredibly impressive earnings. This might turn out to be the busiest weekend since the pandemic started.
Warner Bros.’ Barbie movie is expected to do really well on its opening day, making around $68-70 million, including the money it earned from last night’s previews.
This would make it the best opening of the year for a movie shown in 4,243 theaters, beating Super Mario Bros’ $146.3 million 3-day opening.
Some people think it might even make as much as $165-170 million, but it’s still early, and everyone is getting excited.
Universal’s Oppenheimer movie is also doing quite well, making about $32 million today, including the previews, and it’s projected to make $75 million over the 3-day weekend in 3,610 theaters.
This is even more than what Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny made during its start, which was $60.3 million. Pretty impressive!
This weekend, two movies alone are making a total of $225 million. Paramount’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning is doing pretty well, even without Imax screenings.
In its second weekend, it made $25 million, bringing its total earnings to $124.2 million. On Friday, it made around $6.6 million.
Angel Studios’ Sound of Freedom is also holding strong, making an impressive $20 million in its third weekend, and its total earnings so far are $124.4 million, with 3,285 theaters showing the movie.
Disney’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is in fifth place, expected to make around $7 million in its fourth weekend, and its total earnings by Sunday will be approximately $159.3 million.
UPDATED after Thursday exclusive: Warner Bros. has confirmed that Barbie had the best preview earnings of the entire summer and the entire year 2023, making $22.3 million.
This beats the previews of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which made $17.5 million. It’s a fantastic weekend for Warner Bros. after the disappointment of The Flash last month.
People are keeping a close watch on the Warner Bros. Discovery share price, which is currently around $13.02, a slight decrease of 0.7%.
On the other hand, Universal reports that Oppenheimer made $10.5 million in earnings from 3,150 theaters.
