Port Blair airport’s new terminal building ready for opening

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will open the new integrated terminal building of Veer Savarkar International Airport in Port Blair on Tuesday. He will do this through a video call.

The new terminal building, which costs around Rs 710 crore, will greatly improve the airport’s connectivity with other places.

It has a total area of about 40,800 square meters and can handle approximately 50 lakh passengers each year.

Additionally, a new apron has been built at a cost of Rs 80 crore, which can accommodate two Boeing-767-400 and two Airbus-321 aircraft. This means that now the airport can park up to ten aircraft at once.

The design of the airport terminal is inspired by nature, resembling the shape of a shell to represent the sea and islands. According to officials, the new terminal building will increase the number of flights and promote tourism in the area.

It will also provide more job opportunities for the local community and contribute to the region’s economy.
