‘Satyaprem Ki Katha’ review: True love is put to the test

The Hindi movie “Satyaprem Ki Katha,” directed by Marathi director Sameer Vidwans, is a true love story that portrays a man’s unconditional love for his partner, accepting her despite her problems.

The film, written by Karan Shrikant Sharma, has a classic romance similar to the recent popular movie “Zara Hatke Zara Bachke.” It features several songs, including a remake of the Pakistani hit “Pasoori,” and addresses social issues alongside the drama. However, the movie has some pacing issues that make the story slow down and a tendency to portray the male character as a saviour.

The love between Satyaprem (played by Kartik Aaryan) and Katha (played by Kiara Advani) is initially one-sided. Satyaprem, who is unemployed and inexperienced in relationships, falls in love with Katha at first sight. Despite facing constant arguments with his mother and sister, he patiently waits for Katha to change her mind.

When Katha’s parents propose a marriage between her and Satyaprem, Katha’s reluctance is evident, although Satyaprem’s dental issues are showcased. The struggles the couple faces in their marriage are connected to Katha’s past, and the movie aims to transform Satyaprem from a nobody to a hero who rescues his distressed partner.

The film mainly focuses on Kartik Aaryan’s character, providing him with the most memorable moments. Other important characters, especially the fathers of the couple, are introduced but don’t have significant roles in the story.

Kartik Aaryan effectively portrays a bad boy persona, expressing impolite thoughts while also revealing his tender side. However, Kiara Advani’s performance is more hard-working and efficient than Aaryan’s.
