Ed Sheeran had a wildly eventful week, culminating in an electrifying performance on American Idol, where he demonstrated his impressive proclivity for delivering stellar performances. The English musician and Idol mentor rocked the stage with “Eyes Closed,” the lead single from his latest and final album, − (subtract), which is part of his mathematics-themed collection.

Sheeran’s stage presence is undeniable and awe-inspiring. With nothing more than a microphone, guitar, and a splash of digital effects, he proved to millions worldwide why he’s considered a top-notch performer.

The multi-talented Brit had an exceptionally busy week, jam-packed with activities that would take most people years to accomplish. He won a significant copyright court case at the start of the week, dropped his fifth album Subtract on Friday, and delivered an awe-inspiring performance on ABC by the end of the week. Check out his stunning performance on American Idol.

Alanis Morissette, another guest Idol judge and 90s icon, was not to be outdone as she took to the stage to perform “Thank U,” a smashing hit from her fourth album, Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie, which followed the success of her iconic Jagged Little Pill. You can also check out her breathtaking performance.

Although Sheeran and Morissette are household names, the remaining eight contestants all have aspirations of becoming the next big star. While they all got another chance to showcase their talents, unfortunately, three of them had to say their goodbyes. The remaining five contestants are Colin Stough, Iam Tongi, Megan Danielle, Wé Ani, and Zachariah Smith, while the season 21 departures are Haven Madison, Oliver Steele, and Warren Peay.

Next Sunday, May 14th, is Disney Night, and the Top 5 contestants will have multiplatinum singer-songwriter Sofia Carson as their Idol mentor. Halle Bailey will also grace the stage with a performance of “Part of Your World” from Disney’s upcoming film, The Little Mermaid, in which she stars as Ariel.
