Stranger Things Season 5 Release Date Expected to Break This Frustrating Record

The new season of Stranger Things might set a record for the show when it comes out on Netflix.

After the big success of Stranger Things Season 4, fans are excitedly waiting for the fifth and last season of the popular show. However, due to industry issues and recent strikes, the production of Season 5 has slowed down, causing a longer wait between seasons and changing the usual schedule.

Stranger Things Season 5 to Set Release Record

Stranger Things director Shawn Levy mentioned that The Duffer Brothers are working hard after the WGA strike, and the team is eager to get started. However, it’s now expected that Season 5 won’t be available until the second half of 2025.

If this happens, it would mean a three-year gap between Season 4 (which finished in July 2022) and Season 5, breaking the previous record for the longest time between Stranger Things seasons set by Stranger Things Season 3 and 4 (35 months).

One reason for the late 2025 release estimate is that Season 5 is taking a whole year to shoot, as revealed by Stranger Things star David Harbour.

If the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike gets resolved by the end of 2023 and Season 5 starts filming in early 2024, it’s expected that the main photography won’t be finished until early 2025. Considering the average post-production schedule of eight to ten months from past seasons, the earliest Stranger Things Season 5 might premiere is in fall 2025. This would practically ensure a record gap between season releases.

Should Stranger Things Fans Count on a 2025 Release?

It’s important to mention that a Halloween or Christmas release in 2025 is the best-case scenario for the long-awaited conclusion of Stranger Things.

The SAG-AFTRA strike is still ongoing, and there might be conflicts in scheduling for the cast even after the strike is resolved. This means the record-breaking gap between Seasons 4 and 5 could potentially stretch even further.

The good news is that Shawn Levy and The Duffer Brothers are doing their best to start filming as quickly as possible.

If the writers’ hints about Season 5 being a mix of “Season 1 and 4” and “injected with steroids” are accurate, the final season, regardless of its arrival time, should be worth the wait.
