Tamil Actor-Director Manobala Passes Away at 69

On Wednesday, the demise of the multi-talented actor Manobala left Tamil cinema enthusiasts and stars in a state of shock. The actor-cum-filmmaker, who had been suffering from liver-related illnesses, breathed his last at his Chennai residence where he was undergoing treatment. He was 69 years old.
Manobala was initially admitted to Apollo Hospital in Chennai but was later shifted to his Saligramam residence. He had been unwell for the past fifteen days and despite medical attention, he stopped responding to treatment, ultimately passing away this afternoon.
Manobala, who was predominantly known for his humorous roles, was a renowned director in the 80s and 90s. He directed films featuring renowned actors such as Rajinikanth, Radhika, Suhasini, Prabhu, Sathyaraj, and Sivaji Ganesan. Some of his well-known films include Oorkavalan, En Purushanthaan Enakku Mattumthaan, and Dhoorathu Pachai.
Apart from directing, Manobala also shared screen space with leading actors of Tamil cinema such as Dhanush, Suriya, Vijay, Karthi, and Jaya Ravi. His performances in Yaaradi Nee Mohini, Siruthai, and Nanban are considered to be his best works. Although he played small roles in films, he made a significant impact and garnered immense popularity.
Superstar Rajinikanth, who worked with Manobala in the movie Oorkavalan, expressed his grief on Twitter, conveying his condolences for the loss of his dear friend. He wrote, “I am deeply saddened by the passing away of my dear friend Manobhala, a famous director and actor. My condolences to his family. May his soul rest in peace.”
