The Witcher season 3 is now on Netflix, but only the first five episodes are available for streaming. This season is full of exciting events involving Geralt of Rivia, Cirilla of Cintra, and Yennefer of Vengerberg. Let’s dive into it!

After waiting for over 18 months since season 2, I didn’t have very high expectations for this season. The Witcher has had its ups and downs before. Season 1 was confusing at times, although it had its good moments. Season 2 was less confusing but felt like a stepping stone to where we are now.

However, season 3 of The Witcher is much better than the previous two. The story is complex, but the characters’ goals are clear. We know what drives Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer.

At the start of the season, the little family is together, working towards common goals: protecting Ciri, helping her control her powers, and stopping those who want to harm her. There’s something beautiful in that simplicity.

In other parts of the world, the Continent is in chaos following the events of season 2, which is where this season begins.

Remember, only five episodes of The Witcher season 3 are currently available. The final three episodes will be released on July 27th by Netflix.

The Witcher Season 3 Episode 1 Recap: “Shaerrawedd”

In the beginning of The Witcher season 3, there is a group of men led by Rience, a fire sorcerer, who are looking for Geralt and a girl. Geralt is waiting for them outside and defeats them in a fight. It feels good to be back on the Continent!

After the events of the season 2 finale, Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri are on the run. They find shelter in places known to Geralt and pay people to keep their whereabouts a secret. Although they are together and working towards common goals, there is tension between Geralt and Yennefer due to her past actions. Yennefer tries to gain Geralt’s trust by writing letters to him every day, but he refuses to talk to her. Yennefer also tries to teach Ciri how to use her powers, but it’s not going well.

Eventually, the group finds a peaceful place to settle in the forest with the help of Yarpen. They start to feel like a family and let their guard down. Geralt and Yennefer begin to reconcile and have dinner together. However, their peaceful life is disrupted when Ciri is attacked by a monster called a jackapace during the Belletyne Festival.

Meanwhile, there are other groups searching for Ciri. The elves, led by Francesca, believe that Ciri has the power to change the world and want to find her. In Redania, Vizimir wants to use Ciri as leverage against Nilfgaard and sends his brother Radovin to find her. There are also tensions between various factions.

At the festival, Geralt remembers Yennefer’s birthday and they reminisce about the past. Yennefer asks Geralt if he is still uncertain about what he wants. Geralt makes it clear that he wants Yennefer and to protect Ciri. During the festival, Ciri uses her powers to defend herself against the monster with Yennefer’s help, and Geralt kills it. However, they realize they can’t stay there and decide to draw out Rience, the sorcerer who is after Ciri.

They make a plan with the help of Yarpen and Jaskier to draw Rience out. Jaskier is threatened by Philippa and forced to cooperate. The group camps at an ancient elven city called Shaerrawedd, where Yennefer tells the story of humans and elves and their conflicts. Geralt prefers to remain neutral to survive.

Meanwhile, tensions rise between Francesca and Gallatin, but they agree to find a home together. Ciri shares her vision of uniting humans and elves to bring about change. They are interrupted when Geralt spots danger approaching. Ciri draws out Rience, and a battle ensues. Geralt fights Rience and defeats him. The elves arrive to take Ciri but are caught off guard by Yarpen’s men. Geralt fights the elves, protecting Ciri and the others.

In the end, Yennefer reveals that a powerful mage is helping Rience and suggests taking Ciri to Aretuza for safety. Ciri wants Geralt and Yennefer to stay with her, but Geralt doesn’t trust Yennefer completely and decides to go after Rience. They part ways, promising to meet again.

Jaskier agrees to help Redania and suggests killing Rience to gain Ciri’s trust. In the final scenes, we see Tissaia, Stregobor, and Rience separately. Rience’s arms are healed, and Emperor Emyhr of Nilfgaard is shown looking at a portrait of Ciri as a baby.

Overall, the season premiere of The Witcher season 3 was satisfying. We got to spend time with Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri together, but it’s clear that they can’t stay together for long due to the dangers they face. On to the second episode!
