They revealed them in London because of their partnership with Bajaj. Excitingly, these motorcycles will be available in India starting from July 5, 2023. If you want to learn more about the Scrambler 400 X, keep reading. But first, let me tell you all about the awesome new Triumph Speed 400.
Triumph Speed 400: Design & Features
The Speed 400 is the newest type of motorcycle in Triumph’s modern classic family. This family also includes the Speed Twin 900 and 1200. Let’s start from the front of the Speed 400. It has a round headlight with a shiny silver border. Inside the headlight, there’s a special kind of light called an LED light.
It also has LED turn signals on the sides. The Speed 400 has a wide handlebar that is flat and has only one piece. Right below that, you’ll see a fuel tank that is shaped like a teardrop. The bike has a seat that is all in one piece and goes all the way to the back, which has a small part that holds the tail light.
The engine of the Speed 400 has a black powder coating, and the fins have a brushed steel finish. The exhaust pipes go up towards the back, which makes the bike look sporty. When it comes to colors, Triumph is offering the Speed 400 in two colors with a special Triumph design on the tank. The color options are Carnival Red, Caspian Blue, and Phantom Black.
Now let’s talk about the cool features of the Speed 400. It has something called “ride-by-wire,” which means the throttle response is smooth and easy to control.
The bike also has two important safety features: traction control, which can be turned on or off depending on your preference, and dual-channel ABS, which helps you brake safely. When it comes to the instrument cluster, there’s a big speedometer that shows how fast you’re going.
It also has a small screen next to it that displays other useful information like the RPM (how fast the engine is spinning), which gear you’re in, and how much fuel you have left.
One really handy feature is a USB-C port that lets you charge your gadgets or smartphones while you’re riding. And to keep your bike safe, Triumph has included a steering lock and an engine immobilizer, which means only you can start and ride the bike.
These features come as standard, so you don’t have to worry about adding them separately.
Triumph Speed 400: Engine & Chassis
The Speed 400 has been created from scratch at Triumph’s Hinckley factory. It has a strong frame made of steel tubes and a separate part called a subframe that is bolted on.
The swingarm, which holds the back wheel, is made of lightweight cast aluminum. Now, let’s talk about the engine. The Speed 400 has a brand new motor called the TR-series.
It has a single cylinder and a capacity of 398cc. This engine is cooled by liquid to keep it from getting too hot. According to Triumph, they have made sure that the engine delivers power in a responsive, enjoyable, and unique way.
The engine has four valves and uses a special type of setup called finger-follower, which helps the valves move smoothly. The crankshaft, which is an important part of the engine, has been carefully balanced to make the bike run smoothly at low speeds.
The parts of the engine that touch and move against each other have been coated with a special material called DLC to reduce friction. This helps the engine run smoothly and rev freely.
On the technical side, the engine is said to produce 39.5 brake horsepower at 8000 revolutions per minute (rpm) and 37.5 Newton meters of torque at 6500 rpm. The engine is connected to a gearbox with six different speeds to choose from when riding.
Triumph Speed 400: Cycle Parts
The new Speed 400 has a special suspension system that helps it handle bumps on the road. It has a big fork in the front and a shock absorber in the back.
The front part can move up and down by 140 mm, while the back part can move by 130 mm. The motorcycle has lightweight wheels that are 17 inches in size.
The tires are made by Metzeler and have a specific size: 110/70-R17 for the front and 150/60-R17 for the back.
Now let’s talk about the brakes. The Speed 400 has a big disc in the front that measures 300 mm. It also has a smaller disc in the back that measures 230 mm.
The braking system has a special feature called ABS, which helps prevent the wheels from locking up during braking.
The Speed 400 weighs 170 kg and the seat is positioned at a height of 790 mm, making it easy to reach when you want to sit on it.
