Peacock has declared July 27 as the date of premiere for its series adaptation of the well-known PlayStation franchise. Anthony Mackie leads the cast, portraying the character John Doe, an individual described as loquacious and socially disconnected, who is entrusted with the responsibility of transporting a mysterious parcel through a post-apocalyptic barren region. In the initial teaser for the series, which can be viewed below, Mackie’s character arms his vehicle for warfare, while simultaneously reveling in Len’s “Steal My Sunshine.”
Stephanie Beatriz, known for her role as Detective Rosa Diaz in the hit television show Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Thomas Haden Church, known for his role in the movie Sideways, are set to star in the upcoming television series Twisted Metal.
The show is based on the popular video game series of the same name, and it promises to be a wild ride. Pro wrestler Joe Seanoa, also known as Samoa Joe, will play the murderous clown Sweet Tooth, while Will Arnett will supply the voice. Neve Campbell, Richard Cabral, Mike Mitchell, Tahj Vaughans, and Lou Beatty Jr. will also have guest roles.
According to showrunner Michael Jonathan Smith, Twisted Metal is a “bonkers show about insiders and outsiders, and how our own special apocalypse has divided and isolated us more than ever.” The show takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where the only form of entertainment is a deadly competition known as Twisted Metal.
The competition pits drivers against each other in weaponized vehicles, and the last one standing wins. Stephanie Beatriz plays a skilled driver who teams up with a teenage girl to take on the competition and escape the dystopian world they live in. Thomas Haden Church plays a charismatic and dangerous competitor who will stop at nothing to win.
The Production Team
Twisted Metal is a collaboration between Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions, and Universal Television. Michael Jonathan Smith, known for his work on the hit show Cobra Kai, serves as the showrunner and writer. He is joined by executive producers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the duo behind the hit movie franchise Deadpool, who came up with the original idea for the show.
Other executive producers include Will Arnett and Marc Forman of Electric Avenue, Jason Spire of Inspire Entertainment, Peter Principato of Artists First, Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan of PlayStation Productions, and Hermen Hulst, Head of PlayStation Studios.
