More than a year has passed since the last episode of the show “Ozark” on Netflix. People are wondering if there will be another season, Season 5.

The show is about a guy named Marty Byrde who is a regular money expert. He and his family got mixed up in a money problem that went really wrong.

“Ozark” was on Netflix for four seasons, and the third season got very good reviews. But right now, it doesn’t look like there will be a Season 5 for the Byrde family.

Has Ozark Been Renewed for Season 5?

As of now, there hasn’t been any news about Season 5 of “Ozark” on Netflix.

The second part of Season 4 came out in April 2022, and the cast said goodbye to the show on social media, which was quite emotional.

The person in charge of the show, Chris Mundy, feels thankful that they could end the story the way they wanted. When they announced Season 4, Bundy said, “We’re really glad that Netflix understood how important this show is.”

But later on, Chris Mundy made it clear that it was Netflix’s choice to finish the popular show.

In January 2022, he mentioned to The Daily Beast that he had been discussing with Netflix about ending the show in five seasons. They eventually decided on having a bigger fourth season instead of going for a full fifth season.

He added, “Creatively, we didn’t think it would go past five” but made the compromise of the two-part Season 4:

What Jason Bateman, the main actor in the series, said about how the show would end matches with this. Before Season 3 was released on Netflix, Bateman mentioned, “There’s always been the presumed idea of having three seasons, four seasons, or five seasons for Ozark” (as reported by Collider).

The exact reasons for Netflix ending the show are not very clear. However, it seems that Netflix has been trying to save money in recent years, and they are making fewer of these really expensive and high-quality TV shows. Instead, they are choosing to make smaller, less costly shows.

Will There Be a Season 5 of Ozark?

It’s looking less likely that there will be a Season 5 of “Ozark.” Chris Mundy, the show’s creator, had to work hard to get the number of episodes he wanted in Season 4. He treated the second part of Season 4 like a pseudo-Season 5, calling it “501-507” in the writers’ room.

But that doesn’t mean a real Season 5 can never happen. Jason Bateman, one of the show’s stars, didn’t completely rule out more stories in the Ozark universe. In an interview with Vanity Fair, he talked about the Byrde family’s future, suggesting they might have moved to Chicago and become smarter over the years.

As Bateman hinted, both his character Marty and Julia Garner’s character Wendy are still alive at the end of Season 4, so there’s potential for more if all parties are interested.

However, it seems that everyone involved in the show is mostly okay with it ending after Season 4.
