World Tribal Day History

The International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, also called World Tribal Day, was established by the United Nations General Assembly in December 1994.

It falls on August 9 to honor the inaugural gathering of the UN Working Group on Indigenous Populations under the Sub-Commission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights in 1982.

The main aim of World Tribal Day is to bring attention to the difficulties that indigenous peoples encounter globally, including unfair treatment, poverty, and limited access to education and healthcare.
