“American Sports Story” is an upcoming American sports anthology television series developed by Stu Zicherman. Zicherman serves as the executive producer of the series, alongside Ryan Murphy, Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, Brad Falchuk, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Hernan Lopez, Marshall Lewy, Linda Pizutti Henry, and Ira Napoliello.
It will serve as the fourth installment in the American Story media franchise. The first season will emphasize the story of former NFL player Aaron Hernandez, named Gladiator: American Sports Story.
American Sports Story Plot and Cast
Season 1 of “American Sports Story” will center on the life of Aaron Hernandez. The series draws inspiration from the Boston Globe and Wondery podcast, “Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez and Football Inc.” Aaron faced numerous challenges on his journey to becoming a sports star.
He enrolled at the University of Florida and later joined the New England Patriots. However, Aaron encountered several legal troubles off the field and was charged with murder in 2015. He was subsequently convicted and sentenced to prison for the murder of Odin Lloyd. Additionally, he faced indictment for the double homicide of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado in 2012. Despite being acquitted of the latter charges, he tragically committed suicide in prison at the age of 27.
Release Date
FX had ordered a new spin-off limited series American Sports Story on August 13, 2021, the developers. Season 1 is adapted from a podcast titled Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez and Football Inc. from The Boston Globe and Wondery and the main story will be based on the rise and fall of Aaron, who used to play for the NFL in the past.
The show will also delve into various aspects of Aaron Hernandez’s identity, including his family, career, suicide, and legacy in sports and American culture.
